Bangladeshi fined RM2,000 for trying to hit cop while escaping roadblock


MELAKA: A Bangladeshi man has been fined RM2,000 for a Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here for attempting to hit a policeman and fleeing from a police roadblock.

Asber Nurul, 34, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mazana Sinin during the proceedings here on Friday (Oct 28).

He was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions.

The offence carries a two-year jail term and a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

Based on the charge sheet, the accused attempted to hit the policeman with a crash helmet and attempted to flee a police roadblock when he was stopped and found to be riding a motorcycle without a licence.

The offence was at 10.30pm on May 10 in front of a supermarket near the Sentral Bus Terminal.

The accused was represented by counsel Umar Zulkarnain.
